Man arrested in fatal stabbing of woman in Sacramento along American River bike trail

Police have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing death of a woman whose body was found along the American River bike trail in Sacramento earlier this week, authorities said Wednesday.

Detectives arrested Steven Wilson, 34, on suspicion of homicide, and no suspects are believed to be outstanding, the Sacramento Police Department said in a tweet.

Officers found a dead woman around 2:10 a.m. Monday in the area of Northgate and Del Paso boulevards along the bike trail, the department said in an earlier news release. Initially classified as a suspicious death, investigators by Tuesday determined the death was a homicide and the woman was stabbed, police said.

Wilson was booked early Wednesday morning into the Sacramento County jail on a single charge of murder, inmate records show.

The victim’s identity has not been released by the coroner’s office.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Karl Chan said Monday that the woman’s body was found in the same general vicinity of the American River Parkway where the body of Alex Holden, a 25-year-old man who had been missing and sought since Dec. 31, had been found Sunday afternoon.

Chan said there was no evidence to suggest that the two deaths were linked in any way, and the Police Department in statements said that foul play is not suspected in Holden’s death.
