Coroner identifies woman, 45, found stabbed near American River bike trail in Sacramento
The coroner has identified a woman who was fatally stabbed early last week along the American River bike trail in Sacramento.
The body of Lora Hoagland, 45, was found early Jan. 27 on the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, south of Highway 160, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Karl Chan said the woman was discovered at about 2:10 a.m., with the death initially classified as suspicious and then determined to be a stabbing. Detectives arrested 34-year-old Steven Wilson on suspicion of homicide, police announced last Wednesday.
Wilson, who faces a charge of murder, was arraigned last Thursday but did not enter a plea. He remains in custody at the Sacramento County jail, ineligible for bail.
Officers located Hoagland’s body in the same general area where the body of 25-year-old Alex Holden, who had been missing for nearly four weeks, was discovered about 12 hours earlier. Chan said the Police Department does not suspect foul play in Holden’s death, and that there was no evidence linking the two deaths.
