Patrol officers responded to the area of 14th and G streets to a report of a sexual assault that occurred earlier in the night, according to a news release from the Sacramento Police Department.

Officials said the suspect reportedly brandished a knife and then sexually assaulted the victim. The officers canvassed the neighborhood to look for witnesses and security camera video footage. Crime scene investigators also responded to collect evidence.

Police described the suspect as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s, with a heavy build and standing 5 feet 9 inches tall. The suspect was wearing a black beanie, a black hooded-sweatshirt with red lettering and black jeans.

Officials said the sexual assault investigation was in its early stages and available information was limited. Based on the initial investigation, detectives believe this assault was an isolated incident.
