Citrus Heights woman, 22, gets prison time for Folsom DUI crash that killed passenger
A Citrus Heights woman who pleaded guilty last year to gross vehicular manslaughter, arrested in April for a DUI crash that killed the front passenger in her SUV, was sentenced Friday to four years in state prison.
Alexis Little, 22, was identified by the Folsom Police Department as the driver in an April 9 solo-vehicle crash near Folsom Lake College resulting in the death of 28-year-old Joshua Lowery of Cameron Park, as previously reported by The Sacramento Bee. Little on Friday was denied probation and sentenced to four years, Sacramento Superior Court records show.
Little had been driving a Subaru Forester on East Bidwell Street, one of Folsom’s main thoroughfares, at about 2 a.m. when the SUV struck a light pole and overturned. Police arrested Little for driving under the influence of alcohol, and witnesses told authorities that the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit.
Little and three other passengers in the back seat were hospitalized with moderate injuries, according to the Folsom Police Department, which said that the initial 911 call came from a rear passenger who told dispatch that they believed another passenger to be dead. Lowery was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.
In September, Little pleaded guilty to one count of gross vehicular manslaughter, which carries a prison sentence of between four and 10 years in California for those without related prior convictions.
