Man arrested after 25-mile chase from Rancho Cordova to Placerville ends in crash

Authorities arrested a man suspected of carrying around burglary tools at a Rancho Cordova vehicle auction yard early Tuesday before leading the California Highway Patrol in a 25-mile chase into Placerville that ended with a crash.

Jose Antonio Vega, 29, of Rancho Cordova was arrested on suspicion of felony evading police, along with misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing officers, possessing burglary tools and driving with a suspended license, according to Sacramento County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding.

Sheriff’s deputies assigned to Rancho Cordova Police Department were called about 2:30 a.m. to the vehicle auction yard in the 11400 Douglas Road, just north of Mather Regional Park and a few miles south of Highway 50.

Deterding said a security guard reported seeing a suspicious vehicle in the auction yard. When the deputies arrived, the vehicle left the area. She said the CHP took over the pursuit east into El Dorado County.

Officer Andrew Brown, a spokesman for the CHP in Placerville, said the pursuit ended about 3:30 a.m., when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a tree. The crash occurred along Grassy Run Court, just north of Highway 50 and west of Greenhouse Road.

Brown said there were no injuries reported in the crash. Deterding said Vega was taken into custody at the scene, before he was handed over to deputies and later booked at the Sacramento County Jail.
