Rancho Cordova homicide detectives look for suspect in death of woman found in burning car

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on Friday released the name of a woman found dead inside a burning car seven months ago.

Investigators are also asking the public to help identify a person of interest in the homicide investigation.

The body of Kara Delozier, 37, was found July 24, 2019, Sgt. Tess Deterding, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said in a video posted on Facebook.

Firefighters were called that morning to put out the fire burning the vehicle in the 2000 block of Elmanto Drive, just south of American River and about a mile west of Sunrise Boulevard.

Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after 5 a.m. to assist firefighters.

The firefighters found the dead woman inside the vehicle. At the time, sheriff’s officials did not know the victim’s gender, age or ethnicity.

Homicide detectives were looking for a person of interest in this case. About 3:55 a.m., about an hour before Delozier was found in the burning car, an unidentified male walked by the EZ Clean Car Wash at 2239 McGregor Drive in Rancho Cordova, Deterding said in the Facebook video.

The car wash is about a mile south of where the burning car was found, and security camera images of the person of interest appeared in the sheriff’s Facebook video. He also was spotted walking near Coloma Gas and Food at 10670 Coloma Road, less than a block north of the gas station, Deterding said.

She also said detectives believe the male they’re looking for lives in the area, possibly on Coloma Road or along that corridor.

Investigators asked that anyone with information about that could identify this person of interest to call the Sheriff’s Office at (916) 874-5115 or leave a confidential tip at sacsheriff.com.
