Detectives arrest suspect in deadly shooting in Rancho Cordova backyard

Detectives have arrested a man in connection with a November homicide in Rancho Cordova, authorities said.

Akeim McFadden, 31, has been arrested and booked on homicide charges for the death of 47-year-old George Nixon, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Monday in a news release.

Nixon was located by authorities the morning of Nov. 19 in the 2100 block of Starrlyn Way with a lower-body gunshot wound and taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.

Detectives determined McFadden and Nixon had a “verbal altercation the night before the homicide,” and believe that McFadden shot Nixon in the backyard of a home on Starrlyn, “where Nixon had been sleeping in a tent with his girlfriend,” the Sheriff’s Office said in Monday’s news release.

McFadden has been held at the Sacramento County jail since Nov. 20, on a parole hold related to a June 24, 2019, shooting on Aries Way in Rancho Cordova. In that incident, a 36-year-old man was shot but survived his injuries, the news release said.

He is ineligible for bail, facing charges of murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, booking records show.
