Two in custody after shooting in Arden Arcade, Sacramento Sheriff’s officials say

A man and a teenager are in custody following a non-fatal shooting Monday in the Arden Arcade neighborhood, sheriff’s officials said.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in a tweet just after 5 p.m. had asked residents to avoid the area near Watt and Whitney avenues, where a woman was shot in the upper body and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A search perimeter was set up in the surrounding area Monday evening, authorities said.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding said two suspects, identified as 19-year-old Jose Montoya and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested Monday night.

Deterding in an update early Tuesday afternoon said the two suspects have not been booked on charges related directly to the shooting because “there are still additional investigative steps that need to be taken in the shooting investigation.”

The juvenile was arrested on charges related to obstruction or resisting a peace officer as well as possession of a firearm, Deterding said. Montoya was also booked on an obstruction charge, and has since been released from custody.
