SUV hits cyclist, carries him down Lincoln street after collision, according to police

Lincoln Fire Department crews responded to a Monday evening incident in which an SUV and a bicyclist collided on Joiner Parkway, with the injured cyclist carried atop the vehicle until another motorist intervened.

According to Doug Lee, chief of the Lincoln Police Department, the accident occurred at 5:25 p.m., when a motorist in a Cadillac SUV struck the bicyclist. Lincoln firefighters say the driver kept going down the street for about a quarter-mile until another motorist was able to grab his attention by merging into the SUV’s lane.

According to Lee, the 85-year-old driver of the Cadillac was unaware he had struck someone. He did not appear intoxicated, Lee said, but the officer on scene placed a request for re-examination on his behalf.

The cyclist suffered significant injuries, including broken bones and a concussion, Lee said.
