Clerk in critical condition after suspect tries to steal beer in Sacramento, police say
A convenience store clerk was injured in a robbery Thursday afternoon and listed in critical condition after the suspect tried to steal a beer from the downtown business, according to an update from police.
About 1:45 p.m. officers were called to the store in the 900 block of S Street. Officer Karl Chan, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman, said investigators determined the robbery suspect was trying to steal a beer from the store when the clerk confronted the suspect.
Chan said the suspect pushed the clerk, who fell to the ground. The store clerk was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Chan said the clerk was listed in critical condition and police detectives had been called to the scene to take over the investigation.
Police have not indicated which business was robbed. Chan said the suspect left the area in a vehicle. Investigators were still working at the scene about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
S Street, between Ninth and 10th streets, is closed as officers work at the scene Thursday afternoon. Police officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
