Sacramento County jury convicts man for shooting father in the head, prosecutors say

A 45-year-old man faces a maximum sentence of 40-years-to-life in prison after a Sacramento County jury convicted him of murder in his father’s shooting death.

Wesley Heaton Scobee was found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting his father, Ernie Scobee, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday afternoon in a news release.

The jurors reached their guilty verdict on Tuesday, according to court records. The murder conviction included an enhancement for using a gun in the killing.

Scobee and his father lived together in a home in Rio Linda. Prosecutors said Scobee shot his father in the head, while the victim was sleeping on a couch on July 31, 2018.

Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies were called that day to the Rio Linda home in the 300 block of Quadra Avenue. The deputies arrived at the home and were met by the gunman, before they found the victim inside the residence with at least one gunshot wound.

The victim, who was in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene, the news outlet Rio Linda Online reported.

Scobee remains in custody at the county jail, and he was scheduled to return to court April 17 for his sentencing hearing.
