Placer County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Sacramento man and two teens suspected of robbing a Granite Bay pharmacy Tuesday, which led to a 15-mile freeway chase that ended when the alleged getaway car was stopped by a spike strip.

This was the second drug store robbery in the county in the past week, sheriff’s officials said.

Bryan Andre Williams of Sacramento was arrested along with a 14-year-old boy from Sacramento and a 17-year-old boy from Oakland, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. The names of the teens were not released because they are minors. Sheriff’s officials said Williams, 29, was the getaway driver.

The robbery occurred Tuesday evening at the Walgreens pharmacy on Douglas Boulevard, near Sierra College Boulevard. Deputies were called to respond to a reported robbery in progress the Walgreens, according to a Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

Sheriff’s officials said the teens entered the Walgreens and went to the pharmacy, where they demanded employees open a safe containing prescription medications. The teens stole a large amount of prescription medications and left in a gray sedan.

A deputy spotted the suspected getaway car on Eureka Road at North Sunrise Avenue and tried to pull the vehicle over. The suspect car did not stop and the chase began. The pursuit continued onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 for about 10 miles.

Authorities placed a spike strip Interstate 80 in the Newcastle area which disabled the getaway car, sheriff’s officials said. The car with a deflated tire continued heading east for a few more miles before it came to a stop at the Highway 49 exit. The Auburn Police Department helped the deputies by blocking traffic in the area.
