Suspect arrested in south Sacramento grocery store, bank robberies, police say
Police have arrested a man in connection with a pair of recent armed robberies at a bank and a grocery store in south Sacramento, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Neftali Baca, is accused of brandishing a rifle during two separate incidents occurring days apart at the same shopping complex on West Stockton Boulevard, the Sacramento Police Department said in tweets. Baca was arrested by detectives last Friday on robbery and weapons-related charges.
The Police Department last month reported a suspect attempted an armed robbery Feb. 27 at the Chase Bank on West Stockton Boulevard near Cosumnes River Boulevard and Highway 99, but did not make off with any cash or fire any shots. A customer inside the bank suffered a minor cut and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police spokesman Officer Karl Chan said at the time.
In early March, another robbery was reported at a grocery store in the same shopping center, the Police Department said in Tuesday’s tweets. The only grocery store in that complex is Foods Co.
Detectives identified Baca as a suspect after a “thorough investigation” into both robberies involving physical evidence, witness statements and surveillance video, the department said in social media posts.
Baca is in custody at the Sacramento County jail on $2 million bail.
