Man killed in early morning shooting in Old North Sacramento, police say

Homicide detectives are investigating after a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning near Old North Sacramento, authorities said.

Officers responded around 3 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 2500 block of Colfax Street, near El Camino Avenue, and located a man with a gunshot wound at the scene, according to a news release by the Sacramento Police Department.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to the wound and was pronounced dead, police said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of family.

The investigation remains active, with detectives and crime scene investigators processing the scene for several hours Tuesday morning. No arrests were made, and no suspect description was available.
