Sacramento homicide detectives investigating deaths of 2 found with gunshot wounds

Homicide detectives were investigating the deaths of two people who were found injured with gunshot wounds Monday in a south Sacramento neighborhood.

Sacramento Police Department officials said the victims were adults, but did not indicate whether they were men or women.

At about 10:15 a.m., officers were called to the 5500 block of Wardell Way, just west of Highway 99. The call was for medical assistance. The officers arrived and found the two adults who suffered gunshot wounds, according to a police news release.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and pronounced the two people dead. Homicide detectives arrived at the scene and took over the investigation. Officials said the detectives were working closely with crime scene investigators to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Investigators believe there was no active threat to the public, according to police. Detectives were in the early stages of this investigation, officials said. No further information about the shooting was released Monday night.
