Stockton police investigate shooting involving security guard and knife-wielding man

An armed security guard fatally shot a man Friday night in Stockton, authorities said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 7:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Country Club Boulevard, just west of Interstate 5, the Stockton Police Department said. They arrived to find a 52-year-old who had been shot and stabbed.

Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

According to investigators, the man stabbed himself and then ran toward the security guard while holding a knife. The security guard shot the man when he failed to comply with orders to drop the knife, police said.

The security guard administered aid until medics arrived in an effort to save the man’s life, police said. The security guard was not injured.

Authorities said the investigation will be turned over to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office for review.
