Sacramento County jail inmate faces attempted murder charge in Elk Grove shooting

An inmate at Sacramento County Main Jail is facing a fresh charge of attempted murder after investigators linked him to a recent shooting in Elk Grove, authorities said.

Alejandro Villalobos was already in custody on an unrelated robbery arrest, according to jail records. He was booked Thursday afternoon. He now faces additional charges of attempted murder and violating the terms of his probation, and is ineligible for bail, records show.

The shooting occurred April 12 in the 9100 block of Lujan Drive. Police said a man suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg when someone opened fire from a passing vehicle that fled east on Lujan Drive. Two parked vehicles and a residence were also struck by gunfire.

Detectives from the Elk Grove Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office identified Villalobos, 19, as a suspect in the shooting, and determined he was already in custody, authorities said.
