Man arrested on suspicion of smashing storefront windows in Auburn, Placer deputies say

Investigators used a suspect description, a helicopter and security camera video to find a man who had been smashing storefront windows over the past week in Auburn, Placer County sheriff’s officials say.

Justin Zillyette, 39, of Auburn, was arrested on suspicion of vandalism that caused more than $400 in damage, the Sheriff’s Office announced on its Facebook page Monday.

Deputies over the past week have been called to reports of vandalism in the Train Village area in Auburn. Several storefront windows along Auburn Ravine Road were smashed, including a Taco Bell restaurant, a Starbucks coffee shop and a Shingle Springs Tribal TANF office. Deputies also found a broken bench at the Red Lion Inn.

Deputies and detectives searched for the suspect in the area, along with a sheriff’s helicopter. A detective spotted a man, later identified as Zillyette, who matched the suspect description walking out of a store, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators used the security camera video from a nearby business to identify Zillyette as the vandalism suspect, sheriff’s officials said. Zillyette was later arrested.
