Hummer driver was followed before Sacramento attempted carjacking, authorities reveal
Sacramento police investigators this week continued their search for two suspects who tried to rob a woman who crashed her Hummer SUV with a car as she escaped the robbers.
Authorities on Tuesday revealed more details about what was now described as an attempted carjacking last week in north Sacramento. The additional details were posted on the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers web site, and investigators were asking the public to help identify and find the two suspects.
The crash was reported shortly before 1:20 p.m. on April 15 near the intersection of Norwood and Jessie avenues, just north of Interstate 80. Officers arrived at the scene and learned that an attempted robbery had occurred, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Video from security cameras show the suspect vehicle, a silver Infiniti QX60, had followed the woman in the Hummer from a nearby check cashing store, according to police.
A few minutes before the crash was reported, the woman was driving the black Hummer sport utility vehicle and she stopped at the Norwood and Jessie avenues intersection.
One of the suspects smashed the Hummer’s rear driver side window with an unknown object, authorities said. Then, the suspect leaned into the SUV and tried to snatch the woman’s purse.
She sped off in the Hummer to escape the suspects and crashed with the other car, which was not involved in the attempted robbery.
The Hummer came to rest on top of the car. There were minor injuries reported in the crash, police officials have said.
The impact of the crash ejected the suspect from the Hummer. The other suspect in the silver Infiniti drove up next to the wrecked Hummer, got out, picked up the suspect on the ground and carried him to the Infiniti.
The license plate seen on the silver Infiniti was traced back to a black Dodge truck that had its license plate stolen in Walnut Grove. Authorities said the suspects might be from the Oakland area.
