Parolee crashed stolen minivan after high-speed chase through Folsom, police say

A 52-year-old parolee was arrested after leading officers in a high-speed chase in a stolen minivan through Folsom this week before crashing the vehicle, police officials said.

Christopher Howard of Auburn was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading police and receiving stolen property, the Folsom Police Department announced on its Facebook page.

Authorities were first alerted of the stolen vehicle about 8 a.m. Wednesday, when the vehicle was detected entering Folsom by an automated license plate reader, according to police. Officers responded to the area of detection and found the vehicle, a silver Honda Odyssey minivan.

Officials said the officers tried to pull over the minivan, but the driver, who was later identified as Howard, refused to stop. A police pursuit ensued through Folsom, reaching speeds of up to 70 mph.

Howard lost control of the minivan and struck a curb, which disabled the vehicle. Police said Howard tried to run away from the stopped minivan, but he was quickly caught and arrested.

After his arrest, the officers learned that Howard was on parole for a criminal conviction in Placer County.

Howard, who also faces a charge of violating parole, was later booked at Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remained Thursday afternoon. He was being held without bail, according to jail records.
