Four-hour standoff in Lincoln ends with suspect bit by K-9, police said; 2 people wounded

Two people were wounded and a man was taken into custody Wednesday following a standoff with Lincoln police after they received call from a man screaming for help and officers heard gunshots fired as they arrived.

The man was reportedly holed up inside a home for more than four hours as Lincoln police officials tried to communicate with him to end the confrontation peacefully. By 7:30 p.m., authorities said they had taken the suspect into custody.

The two wounded people were struck by gunfire and suffered what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, said Jill Thompson, a Lincoln Police spokeswoman. Both were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

Thompson said the suspect was also taken to a hospital to be examined for injuries as a precaution after a Placer County Sheriff’s K-9 bit him as he was detained.

Police officials said the suspect, Christopher William Douglass, 28, continued to resist officers as they apprehended him. Douglass will face two counts of attempted murder, according to police.

The incident occurred in the Foskett Ranch neighborhood near El Camino Verde and Calabasa drives.

Earlier on Wednesday, police had been called about 11 a.m. to check on a man at a home in the 2100 block of Conejo Drive. Officers spoke with him and determined no crime had been committed and nobody else was with him in the home. The officers then left.

About 3 p.m., a man called police dispatchers screaming for help and saying there were shots fired, Thompson said. Police received other calls reporting shots were fired. As officers exited their vehicles, they heard shots being fired from the direction of the home they had visited earlier in the day.

Thompson said the officers quickly recognized this was an active shooting and called for backup. Authorities were surrounding the area, when officers spotted the two people wounded within a few houses of the suspect’s home, police said.

Other Lincoln officers, along with Rocklin Police officers and Placer County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene to assist in the incident. No additional gunshots were heard, Thompson said.

Residents living within a quarter-mile of the area were called by authorities and told to stay inside their homes as authorities worked to end the incident.

Police officials said negotiators convinced Douglass to come out of the home, but he was combative while being taken into custody. Once he’s examined at the hospital, Douglass will be booked at the Placer County Jail.
