Sacramento police investigating fatal stabbing in South Oak Park neighborhood
Homicide detectives were investigating a stabbing death that occurred Thursday evening in Sacramento’s South Oak Park neighborhood.
The stabbing was reported about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, when the Sacramento Police Department was called to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 26th Avenue.
Officers were told a male had been stabbed, said Officer Karl Chan, a police spokesman. Officers arrived at the scene and found the man who had suffered a life-threatening stab wound.
Sacramento Fire Department medics arrived to provide immediate treatment, but the wounded man died at the scene.
About an hour after the stabbing had been reported, Sacramento Regional Transit detoured some of its routes Thursday evening as police investigators worked at the crime scene along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene to take over the investigation. Chan said the detectives were going to canvass the neighborhood to speak to any witnesses and obtain any possible video footage of the stabbing.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once his family has been notified, Chan said.
