Shooting at south Sacramento house party leaves 1 dead and 4 wounded, police say
Sacramento police are investigating a homicide after a shooting at a south Sacramento house party Saturday evening left one person dead and four others injured, authorities said.
Four men and a 16-year-old boy were wounded in the attack on Gardendale Road in the Meadowview area, police said. One of the men died as a result of his injuries despite live-saving efforts of officers, medics and hospital staff, authorities said.
Officials have not released the name or age of homicide victim. The man will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified.
Police encountered a chaotic scene after receiving multiple reports of shots fired during some type of altercation at 7:19 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Gardendale Road, just west of Luther Burbank High School. Officers arrived to find three gunshot victims at the scene and were advised two others had transported themselves to a local hospital, authorities said.
Officers immediately administered medical aid to a man with life-threatening injuries, police said. Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived to rush all three victims at the scene to area hospitals, but the man who was critically injured could not be saved. The other victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Officer Karl Chan, a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department, said homicide detectives and crime scene investigators worked throughout the night to investigate.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear and information is limited, authorities said. Based on preliminary findings of the investigation, detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
