Sacramento police arrested a suspect Saturday in the killing of a man in South Oak Park.

In a news release, the Sacramento Police Department said officers took Joseph Yi into custody on suspicion of fatally stabbing a man Thursday in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 26th Avenue.

Officers were called to the area around 5:45 p.m. on reports of a stabbing, and arrived to find a man suffering a life-threatening injury. Fire personnel attempted live-saving measures, but the man died at the scene, police said.

Sacramento police worked with crime scene investigators and community members to identity Yi, 26, as the suspect in the killing, according to the release.

Police previously said officers were planning on canvassing the neighborhood to speak with witnesses and would attempt to acquire nearby surveillance footage.

Sacramento County jail records indicate that Yi is being held at the main jail downtown on a murder charge and is ineligible for bail.

The name of the victim has yet to be released by the Sacramento County coroner, pending family notification.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the stabbing to call 916-264-5471.
