Sacramento sheriff’s detectives investigating fatal shooting of man found in Rio Linda

Homicide detectives were investigating a shooting after Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday evening responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound in Rio Linda.

Sheriff’s dispatchers received a call shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday reporting the wounded man in the 7000 block of Rio Linda Boulevard, just north of O Street.

Sgt. Tess Deterding, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said the deputies arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. She said deputies immediately began life-saving procedures.

Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene, Deterding said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name when his family has been properly notified.

In a sheriff’s news release on Thursday, officials said detectives believe Wednesday’s fatal shooting was “targeted.” Investigators, however, had not determined a motive behind the shooting and did not have any suspect information available to release.

Officials said Thursday that investigators were still conducting witness interviews.
