Woman hospitalized after early-morning shooting near site of previous Valley Hi homicide

Police are investigating a shooting in Valley Hi/North Laguna that took place early Friday morning across the street from the scene of a homicide from earlier this week.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Karl Chan said that officers were called to an apartment complex on the 5500 block of Mack Road following reports of a shooting. The area features several apartment complexes near the intersection of Center Parkway.

There, a woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers took her to a nearby hospital for treatment, where she is expected to survive.

On Wednesday night, just across the street from Friday’s incident was another shooting that left one teenager dead. The victim, a 17-year-old boy, died at a hospital after being shot. Another 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of killing the boy and was taken to juvenile hall.

Chan said there is currently no evidence that the two shootings are linked in any way.

Police investigating Friday’s shooting do not currently have any information regarding possible suspects or any information on a motive behind the violence.
