Two men charged with murder and robbery in death of Carmichael man in Sacramento

Homicide detectives have arrested two men who are accused of murder and robbery in the death of a 65-year-old Carmichael man, an investigation that led to a two-county high-speed car chase.

The July 12 vehicle pursuit ended with the driver and the passenger detained. Mateitalo Fifita and Raymond Munoz were booked at the jail the following day, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday afternoon in a news release.

Fifita, 32, and Munoz, 36, made their first appearance in Sacramento Superior Court on Wednesday. Prosecutors have charged them with murder and robbery.

The same day Fifita and Munoz were formally charged, coroner officials released the name of Antonios Dimitrios Xirouhakis, who was found injured shortly after 5 p.m. July 12 near the block of 3500 San Ysidro Way, in Sacramento’s Arden Arcade neighborhood.

Sheriff deputies received calls about a possibly injured man. Deputies arrived and found Xirouhakis with “apparent trauma to his body,” according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Xirouhakis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told deputies that they saw a car leave the area. Shortly after, deputies tried to pull over the suspected vehicle. But the vehicle refused to stop and the chase ensued.

Sheriff’s deputies, as well as West Sacramento and Davis police, chased the car down Interstate 80 to Mace Boulevard in Davis. The suspect vehicle, at times moving faster than 100 mph, looped back through foothill farms before the chase ended in the McClellan business park in North Highlands.

Fifita and Munoz both remained in custody at the Sacramento County Jail on Monday afternoon and are scheduled to return to court Aug. 10.
