Suspected gunman in 2011 Woodland murder arrested in Idaho, police officials say
Authorities in Idaho has arrested a man on suspicion of murder in connection with a 2011 shooting during a fight outside a Woodland restaurant, police officials said Thursday.
Jose Luis Gomez Arreola, 35, is believed to have shot Gabriel Villareal Ibarra during the March 6, 2011 fight outside La Finca de Rivera Restaurant, according to a Woodland Police Department news release.
The shooting was reported about 2 a.m. outside the restaurant in the 500 block of Bush Street. Officers arrived and found Ibarra motionless on the street and bleeding from a gunshot wound.
Medics and firefighters attempted to revive Ibarra but were unsuccessful and he died from his injuries, police said.
Investigators learned there had been a fight outside of the restaurant’s bar. Police officials said Arreola, during the fight, pulled out a gun and shot Ibarra. Arreola then fired off several more gunshots toward the crowd gathering, before he left the area, according to police.
In 2015, police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Arreola on a charge of murder in Ibarra’s death. On Wednesday, Woodland police officials were notified that Arreola had been taken into custody on the arrest warrant by law enforcement officials in Idaho.
