Man shot by police at South Lake Tahoe motel dies

A South Lake Tahoe police officer shot and killed a man at a motel early Monday.

Police responded to a call reporting a woman screaming and crying at Tahoe Hacienda Inn, 3820 Lake Tahoe Blvd., at 2:40 a.m. About 10 minutes later, an officer shot and wounded a man reported to be in his 20s. The man died about two hours later after being taken to Barton Memorial Hospital.

Authorities have not released the dead man’s identity or further details about the shooting.

The officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
