The man shot and killed by a South Lake Tahoe police officer has been identified by authorities as someone they had recently arrested.
Police identified the dead man as Kris Jackson, 22, of Sacramento.
Police responded to a call reporting a woman screaming and crying at Tahoe Hacienda Inn, 3820 Lake Tahoe Blvd., at 2:40 a.m. Monday. About 10 minutes later, an officer shot and wounded a man reported to be in his 20s. The man died at about 5 a.m. after being taken to Barton Memorial Hospital.
Authorities have released few details about the shooting until the incident can be fully investigated, said Brian Uhler, South Lake Tahoe police chief. A search warrant was obtained to investigate a motel room at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn.

Jackson was arrested June 1 by South Lake Tahoe police officers on suspicion of possessing several bags of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. On May 21, he was arrested by South Lake Tahoe police on a warrant out of Sacramento County for a failure to appear in court.
The officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted. A complete interview with the officer was scheduled.
