Deputies investigating shooting death of man at large house party in North Highlands

A man was killed during a shooting at a large house party in North Highlands over the weekend, according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting at a party in the 6100 block of Coil Court.

Deputies found a 22-year-old man with at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries Tuesday, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release Wednesday.

The victim was Isaiah Martin Chappell, an Oakland resident, according to information released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office on Thursday.

A next-door neighbor from the house party told CBS13 Sacramento that at least one bullet came through his bedroom wall.

The shooting comes just weeks after a shooting at a North Highlands convenience store left one dead and another injured.

Deputies do not know the motive for the shooting on Sunday, and they have not identified a suspect yet.

“Homicide investigators are asking for anyone at the party to contact the Sheriff’s Office,” said spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding.

This story was updated at 10:20 a.m. on July 30 to include the name of the shooting victim.
