Mother whose son died in recent shooting arrested with boyfriend after Roseville drive-by
A mother whose son was killed in a shooting in Roseville earlier this month has been arrested with her boyfriend in connection with a drive-by shooting Tuesday, police said.
Angela Cornaggia’s son died in a shooting July 6 near Riverside Avenue and Cirby Way, just north of Interstate 80, Roseville Police Department said in a press release Thursday.
In what was thought initially to be an unrelated event, police officers on July 28 responded to a drive-by shooting at the 100 block of B Street, where a shooter in “a distinct Honda Accord” fired multiple times at two different homes, according to police.
Officers later learned that the car was associated with a man named Julio Rodriguez. When Cornaggia visited the Roseville Police Department for a follow-up meeting with detectives about the shooting that killed her son, officers realized that Rodriguez had driven her to the office.
Rodriguez was taken into custody without incident, and police officers later realized that the car they used to come to the department was rented by Cornaggia using a stolen ID.
Officers eventually found the Honda Accord and handgun used in the July 28 drive-by shooting, as well as an AR-15 rifle and a tactical vest, according to the police department.
“During this investigation, Detectives learned that Cornaggia was in possession of a stolen Missouri driver’s license, stolen Social Security card, and narcotics,” the police department said in a statement.
It’s unclear the extent of the connection between the two shootings, and police did not reveal a motive for the July 28 shooting.
Police arrested Cornaggia for identity theft, possession of narcotics, and a warrant out of Sacramento County for a prior identity theft case.
Police arrested Rodriguez on multiple charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of a crime, discharging a firearm at an inhabited building, attempted murder, possession of meth for sale and a parole violation.
Detectives are still investigating the July 6 shooting that left Cornaggia’s son dead. The Roseville Police Department is asking those with information to contact Detective Alana Grove at (916) 774-5072 or Agrove@roseville.ca.us.
