Person found dead in vehicle involved in Roseville grass fire, authorities say

Roseville authorities are investigating a suspicious death after finding a body inside a vehicle that was involved in a Monday evening grass fire, authorities say.

Fire officials contained a 4-acre vehicle fire that had spread to dry brush near Wheat Field Court shortly before 5:30 p.m., the Roseville Police Department said in a news release later that night.

After the fire was contained, authorities investigated the vehicle in the burned area and determined an occupant inside had “perished,” the news release said.

Police say circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and it remains under investigation. The news release did not specify whether investigators believed the victim died because of the fire or if there were any other signs of trauma or injury.

The fire was separate from another brush fire in the same vicinity, which grew to about 65 acres before the Roseville Fire Department, Cal Fire and other assisting agencies contained it. That larger blaze sparked around 5:45 p.m. near Fieldstone Court.

The Police Department asks anyone with information about the deadly vehicle fire incident to call its investigations unit at 916-746-1059.
