A Sacramento man is facing charges after an hours-long standoff with the Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies ended in his arrest.

Deputies arrived in the 9800 block of Florin Road after receiving a call at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday reporting a man shooting a gun.

“The caller indicated her neighbor was sending her threatening text messages and she could hear gunfire coming from his residence,” said Sgt. Tess Deterding, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

Officers tried to make contact with the suspect, but he stayed inside the home, where he was with his parents. Deterding said deputies obtained information that the suspect injured his father, who was in need of immediate medical attention.

SWAT team members from the Sheriff’s Office were able to remove the father from the residence and get him treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 3 a.m., SWAT members deployed less-than-lethal tactics to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect did not sustain injuries and was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, elder abuse, negligent discharge of a firearm and commission of a hate crime due to the racial threats made to the neighbor.

Inside the residence, officers found the suspect’s mother, who was safe, and several firearms.
