Sacramento police arrest suspect in fatal downtown hit-and-run

A 22-year-old man is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run after police identified him as the suspect in an Aug. 13 car collision that left a pedestrian dead.

Jordan Ware was arrested by Sacramento police after they released surveillance footage of his vehicle Friday, a black or gray 1998-2004 GMC Sonora truck with moderate damage to the front passenger side bumper and hood. Authorities asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

The hit-and-run occurred last Thursday around noon at the intersection of 4th Street and I Street, near the train station in downtown Sacramento. Detectives believe that the driver failed to stop at a red light, hitting an adult male in the crosswalk. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, according to a press release from the department.

The pedestrian, identified as Charles Holley, 51, of Citrus Heights, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Ware was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
