CHP investigating car-to-car shooting on I-80 in Sacramento area, authorities say

Authorities investigated a reported shooting Wednesday night on Interstate 80 in Sacramento County, briefly closing a stretch of the freeway overnight.

A “dark-colored sedan pulled up next to a green minivan and possibly shot some rounds into the green minivan” shortly before 10 p.m., California Highway Patrol North Sacramento spokesman Officer Greg Zumstein said Thursday morning.

The shooter struck a passenger in the minivan, who was transported to a hospital with injuries. The extent of the victim’s injuries and their condition was unknown as of Thursday morning, Zumstein said.

The dark sedan fled the scene, heading west on I-80, he said.

The CHP said in social media posts that there was no known threat to public safety as of Wednesday night.

Westbound I-80 reopened around 11 p.m., Caltrans and the CHP each said.
