Man killed after shooting at North Highlands motel, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says

One man was killed Wednesday night at a North Highlands motel for the second shooting in four months.

Deputies were called to America’s Best Value Inn on the 4600 block of Watt Avenue for a report of a shooting. There, a block from Interstate 80, deputies found the 36-year-old man with at least one gunshot wound, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Tess Deterding.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was transported to a hospital where he died, Deterding said.

Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide, and believe the shooting to be targeted, she said. The suspects and motive are unknown.

Another shooting at the motel on May 14 forced the evacuation of guests after a standoff between deputies and the suspected gunman, who surrendered after more than four hours.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact them or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.
