Woman shot and injured at levee in North Sacramento. Police searching for the suspect
A woman was shot and injured Friday at a levee near Arcade Boulevard in North Sacramento, and officers were searching for the suspect, police said.
The shooting was reported shortly before noon at the levee nearest to the 300 block of Arcade Boulevard in the Willis Acres neighborhood, a few blocks west of North Del Rio School Park.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the injured woman, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital and was expected to survive, said Officer Karl Chan, a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department.
Based on the investigation so far, officers believe the suspect and victim knew each other, Chan said. Investigators had not yet confirmed the exact relationship between the two people or the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
At 3 p.m. Friday, officers were still at the scene, searching the area just west of Norwood Avenue for the suspect and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses.
About two miles west of the Arcade Boulevard shooting scene, a woman was shot and killed early Friday in a South Natomas neighborhood, according to police. A man was injured in that shooting in the 2600 block of Stonecreek Drive, and he was expected to survive.
Chan said Friday afternoon that the two shootings do not appear to be related. No further information about the levee shooting was available.
