Kelly Dema Carew pleaded not guilty Friday at her Yolo Superior Court arraignment to allegations she fatally bludgeoned a man outside a West Sacramento motel early Wednesday.
Carew, 26, returns to court July 1 for a pre-hearing conference before Judge Stephen Mock. A preliminary hearing has been slated for July 6, according to Yolo County District Attorney’s officials.
Carew was arrested about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday outside Great Value Inn on West Capital Avenue by West Sacramento police. Officers found a man dead on the ground near the front office and a distraught Carew. Officers said the man, later identified as Herbert Ublic Rhodes Jr., 60, of Sacramento, was fatally struck with a pipe.
Carew remains held without bail in Yolo County custody.
