Sacramento Sheriff’s Office seeks help identifying elderly man found in North Highlands
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on Monday asked the public to help identify an elderly man with an apparent memory loss-related illness who was found in a wheelchair last week in North Highlands.
The Asian man was found about 1:10 p.m. Thursday in the 6400 block of Channing Drive, a few blocks east of Watt Avenue. There, a resident called the Sheriff’s Office after seeing the man in the wheelchair outside a home for about 35 minutes, according to a sheriff’s news release.
The resident went outside and gave him some water, because he was wearing heavy clothing in warm weather. But the resident was not able to communicate with the man, who spoke a different language.
Deputies arrived and spoke to the man with the help of a translator. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies then learned the man’s name might be Yan Moun, and he was born in January or April 1926.
The man told the translator he was born in Cambodia and might have recently moved from Texas to the Oak Park neighborhood in Sacramento, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The man appears to suffer from a memory loss-related illness, sheriff’s officials said. Medics took the man to a hospital, where he remained Monday.
Sheriff’s officials said the man appeared to be 85 to 95 years old, is 5 feet, 2, weighs 123 pounds, has brown eyes and a bald head. He was found wearing a light-blue knitted-hat, a dark-blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone who knows the identity of the elderly man to call deputies at 916-874-5115. Tips can also be submitted confidentially through the Sheriff’s Office online tip form or by calling 916-874-8477.
