Woman killed in midtown Sacramento hit-and-run, police say

A woman was killed in a hit-and-run early Monday morning in midtown Sacramento, authorities said.

Officers responded to reports of a collision at 29th and J streets around 12:45 a.m. and located a woman with major injuries in the roadway, Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Woo said.

The woman was found lying in the street, and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Police Department said in a news release.

The involved vehicle fled the scene before police arrived, Woo said. No suspect or suspect vehicle information is available.

Detectives responded to the scene, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to Woo.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
