Authorities release name of man shot to death by resident during Sacramento robbery
Authorities on Wednesday evening released the name of a man who police say may have been involved in a robbery at a Sacramento home before he was fatally wounded when a resident shot him.
Ou Vang Saechao, 40, was shot and killed shortly before 9 a.m. Monday at the home in the 7300 block of Meadowgate Drive, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. Saechao’s city of residence was not available.
Officers received a report of the shooting in the Parkway neighborhood, just west of Franklin Boulevard and south of Florin Road. The officers arrived at the home and found Saechao, who had at least one gunshot wound and was on the ground in front of the home, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release. Paramedics pronounced Saechao dead at the scene.
On Tuesday afternoon, police officials announced that preliminary information gathered in the shooting investigation showed the man shot to death “may have been involved in a robbery that was occurring inside of the residence. A resident of the house then shot the male,” officials said in the news release.
Detectives questioned the resident who fired the gun. The Police Department on Tuesday did not release the resident’s name or any further information about the shooting “to protect the integrity of this investigation,” according to the news release.
Police said detectives would complete their investigation and submit the information to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges are appropriate.
The Police Department asked anyone with information about this shooting to call officers at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted confidentially through the P3 Tips website and app.
