Sacramento man accused of tackling soccer referee in Roseville is charged with battery
A Sacramento man faces criminal charges for allegedly tackling a youth sports referee in Roseville.
The Placer County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges Monday against Vicente Robles, 34, of Sacramento for a misdemeanor violation. Robles is accused of committing battery against a sports official, the office stated in a news release.
The incident occurred at a soccer game on Oct. 30 at Festersen Park. In a video obtained by KCRA, a man in a black sweatshirt can be seen running toward a referee during the game, running into him and knocking him to the ground. The referee is blindsided by the man. As others on the field rush to his aid, the referee gets up and walks away from the man.
Roseville police were called to the scene to investigate and forwarded the crime report to prosecutors Nov. 17.
Arraignment is set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, in Department 30 of Placer County Superior Court in Roseville.
