Sacramento police officers arrested a 61-year-old man suspected of stabbing another man during a dispute that escalated to violence Monday near two parks in a South Natomas neighborhood.

The stabbing was first reported shortly after noon in the area of Edmonton Drive and Westward Way, just west of Rio Terra Park and Strauch School Park.

The man with the stab wound was taken to a hospital. He was expected to survive, said Officer Karl Chan, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman.

Officers found the stabbing suspect in the area and detained him. Chan said the suspect, later identified as Guillermo Martin, was arrested on suspicion of felony assault charges.

Chan said the officers investigating the assault believe a fight or some type of disturbance escalated to the stabbing.
