Placer County man found on embankment in Yuba County last week was homicide victim

Sheriff’s officials on Friday announced that a Placer County man found dead last week at the bottom of an embankment near the Spenceville Wildlife Area in Yuba County was a victim of homicide.

The victim has been identified as Robert Mendoza, 60, of Lincoln, and his death was being investigated as a homicide, according to a Yuba County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Sheriff’s officials said the autopsy results are still pending, and the investigation remains “active and ongoing.”

About 11:30 a.m., Nov. 26, a caller reported the discovery of a body along Spenceville Road near the Nevada-Yuba county line. At that time, the Sheriff’s Department was investigating it as a suspicious death due to visible injuries on the body.

Sheriff’s officials on Friday did not release any further information about the homicide investigation.
