Lincoln High School locked down as police investigate report of gun on campus
Lincoln High School was placed on lockdown Thursday as officers investigated and searched the Placer County campus where students saw what appeared to be a gun; however, police found no weapons.
About 11:20 a.m., Lincoln High students reported seeing something believed to be a weapon on campus, Western Placer Unified School District officials wrote in an email to parents. Police officers were immediately contacted, and a campus lockdown was initiated.
All Lincoln High students were safe in secured classrooms, and officers were on campus investigating, the district said. Parents were asked not to come to campus, according to the email. No one was allowed to enter or exit the campus for nearly three hours.
“What’s important to know is the students are safe and secure, and you do not need to come to campus to pick up your child,” the district told parents. “We will continue to update you as we receive updated information.”
Officers searched the campus with a police K-9 trained to look for guns, according to a social media post from the Lincoln Police Department. Police also searched the area with aerial drones but officers found no weapons on the campus. Shortly before 2 p.m., police announced that the lockdown had been lifted.
The lockdown comes one day after police arrested a student at nearby Twelve Bridges High School who is suspected of posting an Instagram video that claimed a shooting would take place. The 16-year-old did not have any guns or weapons in his possession when he was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of making criminal threats, Lincoln police said.
There was no indication the two incidents are related.
