The California Highway Patrol on Wednesday evening closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Placer County as officers investigated a fatal crash.

The I-80 eastbound lanes were closed to passenger cars due to a major injury accident on I-80 westbound near the community of Cisco Grove, CHP Gold Run announced shortly after 5 p.m. on social media.

Commercial vehicles were also stopped at the Nevada Stateline. Westbound I-80 reopened to traffic around 6 p.m.

The CHP’s online dispatch data indicated that the fatal crash, which was first reported about 4:10 p.m., involved a vehicle and a snow plow, but that information had not been confirmed. It was unclear how many people were injured in the crash.

There was no further information available Wednesday night.
