Sacramento police arrest suspect in fatal shooting at South Land Park shopping center
Homicide detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with Sunday’s shooting of a 43-year-old man killed in front of a liquor store at a South Land Park shopping center in Sacramento.
Danthony Chaney, 31, was arrested on suspicion of homicide in the shooting of Terence Raythail Lindsey, the Sacramento Police Department announced in a news release Friday. Lindsey was gunned down Jan. 2 at the South Hills Shopping Center in the 5900 block of South Land Park Drive.
Police said detectives identified Chaney as the sole suspect, though the investigation remains active. He was arrested Thursday in Reno, Nevada, and is awaiting extradition to Sacramento.
Orionna Andres-Lindsey, Lindsey’s daughter, started an online fundraiser on Gofundme to help pay for his funeral costs. As his only child, she said it was her “responsibility to lay him to rest.” She called her father her best friend, who was the first person she went to when anything got tough and was always available when she needed him the most.
“My dad was a real life superhero to me,” she wrote in the Gofundme page. “He could do backflips at 35 and was still doing parkour at 43. He coached volleyball and had a team of kids absolutely adoring him as he taught them new tips and tricks that only a seasoned volleyball player would know.”
She has reached her fundraising goal and thanked donors for helping her give her father the funeral he deserves.
Lindsey’s death in front of Mike’s Liquor Store on Jan. 2 was Sacramento’s first reported homicide of the year. Last year, the city had 57 homicides — the most homicides Sacramento has had since 2006, when there were also 57 homicides, according to crime data compiled by the FBI.
The Police Department asked anyone with information about the Jan. 2 fatal shooting to call officers at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted confidentially through the P3 Tips website and app.
