Deputies have arrested a man suspected of shooting and seriously injuring a teenage girl last week in Antelope, authorities said.

Authorities responded the morning of Jan. 26 to a shooting in the 7700 block of Watt Avenue, where a teenage girl was shot while riding in a vehicle with family, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Rodney Grassmann at the time said the victim was a 14-year-old girl, but Wednesday’s statement corrected her age to 16. She was shot while “riding with her brother in a vehicle driven by her mother,” according to the news release.

Detectives identified the suspected shooter as 34-year-old Oybek Khamidkhodjaev of Sacramento.

Authorities located and arrested Khamidkhodjaev after brief vehicle and foot pursuits that began in Sacramento County’s Arden Arcade area and ended in the Sierra Oaks neighborhood within city limits, sheriff’s officials wrote.

The victim in last week’s shooting, according to the sheriff’s news release, “remains hospitalized with severe life-altering injuries.”

Khamidkhodjaev was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a charge of attempted murder and evasion charges related to this week’s pursuit, booking records show. He is ineligible for bail.
