Police officers on Monday morning detained a person swinging a sledgehammer and were investigating the connection to the death of a woman found nearby in a burned motel room in East Sacramento.
The fire occurred at the Motel 6 at 1415 30th St., between N and O streets. Shortly after 6 a.m., firefighters were called to the Motel 6 and quickly extinguished flames in a second-floor room, according to the Sacramento Fire Department. Fire officials referred further questions about the fire to police.
Officers were called to the fire in the motel room that involved a person who reportedly fled the area, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
After the firefighters put out the fire, they found the woman dead inside the room. Police did not release any further information about the person, including whether they face any charges in connection with the fire or the woman’s death.
The circumstances involved in the entire incident remained under investigation. Detectives have been called out to the scene and will be assisting with the investigation.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the woman after her family has been notified.
